Congratulations on your first issue! I’m also listening to The Retrievals right now- I love how the host has made the patients’ identities central to their stories because I feel like that choice helps highlight the nuance of these horrifying events.

Thanks, Paige! And yes, I agree - I think it's really well done in terms of making sure we know these things happened to real, identifiable people with careers and friends and lives. I'm up to date, and I believe there are only five episodes, so I'm wondering what the next two will reveal.

I’m almost done with episode 3 so I’m very interested in how things will turn out!

So, when I first read that passage in Haunting...it reminded me of when we moved to a new house and my sister and I got to have our own rooms for the first time. She was 6 and one morning, not long after we'd arrived, came downstairs claiming someone had been in her room during the night and had held her hand Whose hand was it, we all wondered. 🤚😱 She moved back into my bedroom quite quickly after that.

I'm very into your chatter already...

Woahhhhh Sarah! I just did the loudest intake of breath, that is a brilliant story! Now I want to ask your sister *everything* she remembers about it (if it's not retraumatising, obvs...).

I honestly feel like this is *exactly* the kind of thing I started this Substack for! Thank you for joining in with such amazingness.

Wonderful, Kellee! We are the best is such an ace film. You’ve inspired me to rewatch it. Maybe I will get some value from that Mubi subscription 😂

Thanks Ella! Yeah, it's so good, isn't it? Brilliant performances, and I love how the trajectory of the film parallels that of the classic band story - initial excitement, over-confidence, a near break-up caused by a romantic interlude, the triumphant reunion. (Also love that there's even a makeover, albeit one that results in a call to the police.)
